Map One: jumps
Within the project Personal Tracks (2003), MAP
ONE deals with the question pertaining to the reasons and methods for creating a personal track.

Why does one deviate
from standard paths
and develop an indivi-
dual style of making
headway?

As the point of departure, we selected scenes from
four films that show different possibilities of how and
why the protagonists move from point A to point B. Our concern is less the way the geographical distance is covered in practical terms, than the underlying motivation and the method of navigating. A special aspect of navigation was derived from each of the four films and implemented along with comparisons, commentaries and supplements in the form of poster tracks (original format 320 x 40 cm).
Personal Tracks was shown in 2003 at the exhibition Commitment.
The exhibition was organized by the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture at the Las Palmas, Rotterdam (NL)

Navigation as transformation

(Catherine Zeta-Jones) form a team. Mac guides Gin through a network
of laser beams which she cannot see.

Improvised navigation

replaced by spontaneously chosen path sections.

Original material:
Stills from The Watcher, Joe Charbanic, USA, 2001
Joel Campbell (James Spader) is a thoroughly depressed, heavily
medicated police officer who tries to stop the mass murderer David
Griffin (Keanu Reaves).

Crossing navigation
Construction / Coincidence

MAP ONE examines two examples of interaction.
